About the service

Does it matter what device I have? I can help with general issues like using email, use the internet, set up online accounts.... on any device. I specialize in Apple products (Mac books, iPad, iPhone, Apple watch).

Do I need to have my own computer? No, we can go through everything on my computer. Information will not be stored.

What is a remote session? Support is over the phone. The "only" thing you have to do is open the link I send you. That allows me to view your device screen. I see what you see and walk you through. Online sessions do require a 50% deposit.

How long is a session? As long as needed. There is a 5 minute minimum for "on the spot" sessions". Scheduled sessions are 30 minutes minimum.

Who can book this service? Anyone - no matter what age, background, knowledge.... The goal is to get everyone comfortable and confident in using the digital world independently.

What is digital equity? It refers to the state where every person and community has the necessary information technology resources to fully participate in society, democracy, and the economy. This includes access to devices, the internet, and the skills to use them effectively.

Are there any reviews of the business? I am working on setting up a review page. This is a "Thank you note" I received from a client: "Thank you so much for the fast and efficient advice on my new iPhone 7. The remote assistance was extremely useful and we had it solved in a short time (and I didn’t have to go through all the “press 1 for ….” And give my phone number ten times). I learned a lot and your assistance was so easy to use. The real plus was we got it done so quickly! Love your service and will use it again."

How do you pronounce "Birgit"? The correct pronunciation is "B EE R - g iht" (g as in "go"). You can call me "B".

Where is your service located? On the Big Island of Hawaii/USA.

In what area are "in person" service appointments? Currently at selected "pop up" locations.

Do you come to my house? All sessions are in a public setting. This means mobile devices only (laptop, cell phone or tablet).

What days/times do you work? I am flexible regarding time and day. Except holidays.

How long in advance do I need to book an appointment? There might be an opening on the next day.

How much does it cost? Do you have gift cards? Please see the pricing for all products here. Our electronic gift cards will be sent by email to the recipient directly.

Are there any hidden fees? No, I will charge you only for the minutes you used my service. For the remote service you need internet access otherwise there might be a charge from your cell phone provider.

How do I pay? Cash, Venmo, secure online payment or over the phone with debit/credit card.

What is the cancellation policy? At least 24 hours before your session. Otherwise no refund of the retainer payment.

Do I get my retainer money back if I forget my appointment? $ 25 "no show" fee.

What about discounts or special offers? They are listed in the "sessions section" on the website.

ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in the countryside of Austria (Europe). My interest in technology started early with programming my parents' video cassette recorder and helping my grandparents lock in the digital radio stations.
While studying, I switched gears and became a city girl (and still am at heart) and a speech language pathologist. I enjoyed working with patients from 1 to 90+ years old. During that time I learned a lot about communication, patience & that one concept does not always fit all.
Since 2007, I have been a full time resident on the Big Island of Hawai'i. I became the office manager, editor and technical support specialist in my husband's photography business. I also started helping friends and neighbors to master and customize their digital devices.
An eye opening moment was when I was waiting for my turn at a cell phone provider: Lots of customers did not come in to buy a new phone, they had questions about setting up their phones and accessing online information. And that's when "the helpful spot" was founded in 2020. Because of Covid and the decision to build a home for ourselves, my business idea was put on hold.
When I read studies about the importance of digital literacy and the increasing need for navigators, I decided to give it another try. My goal is to guide my clients with compassion and understanding so they can gain confidence and independence on their digital journey.
